Space marines then this unless maybe you slap one of these on it. However, under the new rules, Rhinos just don’t cut it anymore, instead they have given way to these. And why not? Drop pods always get to drop regardless of mission, they can’t go into difficult terrain, and if you land on your opponent just move a little. Oh yeah, and it is an AV 12 vehicle that counts as Type 3 terrain when it gets blown up. But I am actually just repeating back to you what you can read from some Seattle GT cats in this month’s White Dwarf. Oh yeah, did I mention that they are only 30 fucking points? I am not going to compare effectiveness, as really the Rhino loses out hands down. Instead, I am going to point out still another instance where, GW hates you. Yeah you, the person reading this that may now, or one day, be thinking about making a Space Marine army. See, those nifty drop models will set ya back about $85 + shipping, almost $100 if you want to drop your Dread. God forbid actually building a drop list, let’s just say you wanted to drop say, two things in your army. Gratz you, that will be about $200 bucks before shipping on 60 GD points. This seems somehow flawed, considering you only pay $55 for 255 points in a Land Raider Crusader. I know that “cheaper” scratch built alternatives exist out there and, to be honest, they seem to be the way to go until GW gets some shit figured. The fact that Workshop continues to include unit selections into its game that it doesn't intend to actually make the models for is in no way endearing. It is actually incredibly frustrating and, no other company could get away with it. I was instilled with great hope by the Wave Serpent and Venerable Dreadnought, however, my approval was short lived by these knob jockey half-wits who made drop pods so damn awesome. If you have any doubt as to just how awesome they are I will present the following two arguments:
played had a drop list. I got smoked in turn 3. My list is no way super strong. It is really hard to kill something when there is nothing to shoot at. Oh yeah and when the pods do start coming in, there still isn't anything you can shoot at. 2. Osman won’t use them. He said, “They’re too easy.” I am not a pod h8er at all. I really like the idea of a FEW squads being shot down from orbit, especially if it looks like it does in Dawn of War. I also think that the Forge World kit looks incredible. I personally am rather enthused at the notion of a Dreadnought dropping in to flame orcs or a Chaplain and his retinue descending to the planet like the celestial beings their heraldry so often imitates and whopping some righteous ass. What I will always h8 is poorly thought out marketing strategies and glaring contradictions. If GW can make the f’ing giant, they can make a drop pod. I would gladly pay the price of a land raider for that mini in plastic. Furthermore, I don’t have to deal with the bile that comes up in my throat when recognizing that, like magic, GW games favor the people who have a lot of money to spend on them. By creating a model, GW “standardizes” the selection, making it much for accessible to all players. There seems to be something inherently flawed with the fact that I can spend $85 dollars on a model that could just as easily be represented by the box it is shipped to me in. If there is a Seattle GT maybe I will just bring segments of cardboard poster tube and scrawl, “This is a Space Marine drop pod” on the side. Why a Seattle GT to make my stand and not, say, Gamesday Baltimore? Cause Seattle will be SO much closer. That’s right boyos the Baron will be able to reclaim land and title in the inland north-west. I have recently taken a job with Pita Pit as their SA and POS Liaison in CDA (yes I use CDA because I can’t spell the actual name of the town. It suspect it will about a year before I ever spell it correctly). I will be moving there about third week in May so pert near. Moving is crazy, but I will be super stoked to go home, “ish”, and have a good job. |
