| Greg Week Three |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It's fitting to note that as Deke and I enter and pass through week three of our chaotic escapade like tarry stools through the bowels of the cosmos, I have changed directions once again. Admittedly, many niggling thoughts demand attention as I consider and reconsider how to proceed with this army -- Aaron's zealous -- does he ever offer opinions without zeal? -- assertion that Chaos Undivided sucks, a palpable and growing dislike for the booby-licious Marauder models, and the never-ceasing desire to paint only monsters. With these thoughts in mind, along with the fevered, incessent taunting of the clock, I have decided to abandon, despite a host of misgivings, my original plans to create and paint an Undivided mortal army. More on this choice in a second. First, an apology/argument is in order. Time reigns tyrant over us all. Truth bullied this fact into my head when I realized that having based over thirty Marauders, six hounds and a wizard only put me behind the 8 ball points-wise, and trying to polish-off 500 points of cheap and relying on a character to round out the difference was frigging stupid. Dismayed at first, I sent the Marauders packing, only to pee myself in joy at the opportunities that now rested before me. See, I'd always wanted to field the Monstrous Host army described in the appendix of the WHFB 5th ed. "Realms of Chaos" book. Trolls, ogres, minotaurs ...big, stinky beasties fielded in small, brutal units really captured the kind of Chaos I imagined would look cool but fight poorly on the pitch. Since that's my kind of gamestyle, and with the Marauders mouldering in a box, I decided to go for it. Also, I could utilize some existing stock to get this army on the table top and being big all over your asses. So that's what I'm doing. The twist, however, is that these goons will march to war in the service of a stalwart band of steady-rolling Chaos Warriors. According to the rules, the Hellcannon--which can only be fielded in Chaos mortal armies--has been abandoned for now, and whether Knights will make the cut is up to fate. Hounds will represent, but Marauder horsemen have been sent to pasture. Other details remain in the smithy fire; I'll hammer them out later. In the meantime, this decision feels like the best course to pursue so far, at least until next week. Again, the focus is on paint rather than conversions, but I'll try to come up with a worthy centerpiece down the line. Until then, a unit of trolls already has a coat of paint or two, hounds are ready for paint, and some ogres are also in line. I may take a giant, maybe some dragon ogres, maybe a shaggoth, maybe a spawn or two. We'll see kind of story and theme emerge over the next few weeks. Next week, maybe some painted trolls with be ready to make their debut. They'd better be. |
