Initial Thoughts
BACK
So it turns out that the 2005 GT is perilously close given the amount of time it takes me to paint. Poop.  As
many of you know I’ve been fretting about what army to take for quite some time now.

My  biggest  concern  has  been  to  not  repeat  my irritation  of last year  where  my army  was  largely
passed over as people dismissed it having “seen it last year”.  It was an extremely frustrating experience
since I had changed significant portions of the army.  Well, I've vowed that won’t happen again so Da
Mommas Boyz only get to make official appearances every other year now.

Unfortunately, that left me in a perplexing  dilemma.  I knew I wanted to  play fantasy and  I messed
around with several ideas, many of which you all heard.  For a brief  time I  settled on  my  Knights  of
Sigmar  army which  was to  be based largely  on the concept art of the Flagellants.  Sadly that came to a
screeching halt as I stumbled  across Dave Taylor’s  (of  Black G obbo) own  Knights of  Sigmar army
based upon  the exact same  concept  using the  very  same conversion  bits.  Sigh.

Frustrated I turned to 40K and my long held idea for Garro’s 70.  Now the Garro army is a discussion for
elsewhere but in short:  the conversions are taking a loooonnnnnngggg time, and my paint-fu for painting all
white marines isn’t yet up to snuff.  This was becoming painful.  Enter Greg and James, thank God.

Now Greg  as I’m sure  you’ve read  was  also having some  army selection  difficulties  thus with a  little
prompting from Larry the “roll for your army” incident occurred.  To give us added incentive James
suggested we pull this off
Tale of Four Gamers style.  So having freshly  rolled,   Dwarves, I  began to
plot.  Turns out Dwarves  are my  favorite fantasy race, but  I friggin’ hate  them  in  Warhammer.   Talk
about a  one dimensional  army.  Nonetheless,  I remained  resolute …then Greg bought the Chaos boxed
army.  I’m fairly certain Chris B. may be a  manifestation of one of the Dark Gods, most likely Slaanesh.
Well hell,  I couldn't let  Greg  tread  the dark  paths  alone now  could I?  Besides game play for Chaos is
definitely cooler than playing Dwarves.  Turns out the models are spiffy as well.  Looks like I’ve fallen…..
damn.

So right out of the gate I know a couple things I want (and don’t want) for my army.

1) No  Chaos Knights,   Chosen,  Dragon Ogres, or Minotaurs.  Turns  out these boys rear  their  blood
soaked heads in every Chaos army.  I don’t begrudge that.  They’re dead sexy models and brutally
effective to boot.  Lucky for me the Chaos list is so damn huge that even without these “staple” units I won’
t be at a loss for solid combat units.

2) Little bit of everything.  Chaos has three books!  It’s really stupid silly.  But you know what if they’re
gonna give me the options I’m going try to use them.  My goal is to get at least two of the three unit types
in the army (Mortals, Beasts, Demons).  All three will be even better.  I’m planning on going Mortal led
which makes everything else special.  It’s going to make my special slots really crowded.  It’d be much
nicer if I could make Mortals Core, Demons Special, and Beasts Rare.  Oh, the injustice!!!

3) Marks.  My initial army draft had four champions, each with a different mark.  It then had four units of
15 warriors also each with a different mark.  I thought that’d be a neat way to do an Undivided army.
Turns out those units are really expensive and aside from a few war hounds the four heroes and four units
made up the entire 2000 points.  So, in search of vaster armies I turned to Khorne.  I would have done
Slaanesh, but Tony has resolutely said that my Slaanesh army wouldn’t be allowed in the store.  Turns out
I think those tentacles must be used for something.  No biggy, Khorne is kind of like a warm blanket for
me.  Big rampaging warriors that crush everything in their path, that’s fun baby.  Plus it’s just Orky enough
for me to feel comfortable.

4) Painting and Modeling.  These are going to be something of a challenge to accomplish given my two
jobs and multiple campaigns.  So I’m going to stick with the realm of the familiar for both.  I’m going to shy
away from the blood soaked red of typical Khorne.  Instead I plan to emphasize the brass, most likely with
some NMM action.  I think that could look snazzy.  Conversions, I’ll stick to creative posing and
weapon/body part swapping.  My lord is going to be an Exalted Champion on a Juggernaut, I’ll save the
heavy modeling for him so he’s a true center piece.

Well, that’s it, Greg and I are off to wander the well beaten path of damnation.  At least it’ll be in good
company!
